Biology Buddies

Biology Buddies nature classes focus on the natural wonders around Swan Lake. Each class has a different nature theme, which we interpret through games, stories, crafts and an outside ramble. A joyful nature experience is always our goal. For naturalists 4 to 6 years old

Session #1 May 1, 8, 15, 22  Themes: Insects, Great to be green (plants), Snakes, Hummingbirds

Session #2 June 5, 12, 19, 26  Themes: Beavers, Egg-cellent adventures, Ladybugs, Marshes

Spring Break Fossil Fair

Fossil FairSat & Sun March 23 & 24 – drop in event, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Who lived here millions of years ago? Dinosaurs, trilobites, ammonites, enormous clams and sharks lived in the ancient tropical coral seas and palm tree forests that covered Vancouver Island. Paleontologists will share their personal fossil discoveries including many from this past year. Bring your family and your own fossils for identification.

Wildflower Wanderings

Spring has sprung and the Sanctuary has never looked better. We celebrate the wonderful world of wildflowers with guided tours of our native plant garden, a hike up Christmas Hill, crafts & games for the kids, and native plants for sale.

Duck Days

Some dabble on the water, some dive for food below! Through games, crafts, and activities, we’ll explore the amazing adaptations of ducks, where and why they migrate, and discover who’s who in the duck world.

Home-school Science

We take learning outside the classroom! This series of four 2-hour science classes is designed for home-schooled children. We provide nature-themed programs with games, discovery and activities which encourage science-based learning while socializing with other home learners. The Bird Course

Friday May 17 - Sunday May 19Fri: 7pm - 9 PM  Sat-Sun : 7 am - 6 pm This three-day course, led by renowned bird experts, Drs. David Bird and Rodger Titman, is perfect for bird enthusiasts from novice to expert!  Be prepared to discover how birds do what they do; learn about their fascinating behaviours; delve into their biology to investigate how their bodies work; and last but not least, how to identify the vast array of these feathered marvels. Maximum of 20 people.

If you want to learn how to keep deer out of your garden and what to do about Victoria’s deer ‘issue’, you’re out-of-luck; we don’t have any new answers. But if you want to have some nature fun and learn about who’s who in the deer world, we can help!
